Islamic Finance in the Age of AI: Advancing Innovative Research, Education, and Practice

Introduction

The Centre for Islamic Finance (CIF) at LUMS invites submissions for the 8th Islamic Finance Banking and Business Ethics Global Conference (IFBBE 2025).

The financial world has entered a new era of artificial intelligence where the expectation is that we will experience unprecedented changes. Imagine a situation where financial decisions would be made not by conscious human subjects but by independent algorithmic intelligence capable of making decisions in less than nanoseconds. The speed and complexity of these decisions may be beyond the capability of the average human consciousness. This conference aims to explore how this change would affect the landscape of Islamic finance and what challenges and opportunities it holds for the discipline and its practice.

The speed of change that artificial intelligence is going to bring to the discipline of finance is studied diligently in the conventional finance literature. Issues of automation are particularly at the forefront of enquiry. The same is true for the impacts on risk and return as the adoption of Al agents increases. IFBBE 2025 plans to bring together scholars and practitioners to discuss the challenges the new ecosystem would hold for the theory, practice and education of Islamic Finance.
